How to select correct materials for cnc machining in China?The material is wrong, everything is in vain!

There are many materials suitable for CNC processing.To find the materials suitable for the product, it is restricted by many factors. A basic principle to be followed is that the performance of the material should meet the technical requirements of the product and the environmental use requirements.When selecting mechanical part materials, the following five aspects can be considered.

  1. Whether the rigidity of the material is sufficient

Rigidity is the first factor to be considered when selecting materials, because products need certain stability and wear resistance in actual work, and the rigidity of materials determines the feasibility of product design.According to industry characteristics, 45 steel and aluminum alloy are usually selected for non-standard tooling design; For the tooling design of machining, 45 steel and alloy steel will be used more; Most of the tooling design in the automation industry will choose aluminum alloy.

  1. How about material stability

For a product with high accuracy requirements, if it is not stable enough, various deformations will occur after assembly, or it will be deformed again during use. In short, it will be constantly deformed with the change of temperature, humidity, vibration and other environment. This is a nightmare for the product.

  1. How about material processing performance

The processing performance of materials means whether the parts are easy to process. Although stainless steel is rust-proof, it is not easy to process. Its hardness is high and it is easy to wear tools during processing. Machining small holes on stainless steel, especially threaded holes, is easy to break the drill bit and tap, which will lead to very high processing costs.

  1. Antirust treatment of materials

Antirust treatment is related to the stability and appearance quality of products. For example, 45 steel will usually be treated with “blackening” for rust prevention, or the parts will be painted and sprayed with plastic. It can also be protected with sealing oil or anti-rust fluid during use according to the environmental requirements.There are many anti-rust treatment processes, but if the above methods are not suitable, the material must be replaced, such as stainless steel. In any case, the rust prevention of the product cannot be ignored.

  1. How about the material cost

Cost is an important consideration in selecting materials. Titanium alloy has light weight, high specific strength and good corrosion resistance. Vacuum Casting and Reaction Injection Moulding are common manufacturing way for low volume production. 1.Vacuum Casting

Vacuum Casting(urethane casting) is a common processing method that uses the master mold to make a slicone mold in vacuum state,and uses PU material to pour in vacuum state, so as to clone the same copy as the original template.It is mainly used for small batch customization of plastic tablets.Generally, dozens to hundreds of plastic tablets are processed in this way,which is cost-effective.

The material performance of vacuum casting products can simulate the performance of most existing engineering materials. Common materials include domestic PU, imported PU, transparent PU, soft PU, POM, ABS, PP, PC high temperature resistant ABS, etc. At the same time, transparent parts such as PC, organic glass, thermoplastic elastomer TPR, TPR, TPU, and various soft materials such as silica gel, rubber, etc. can be copied. It is mainly used to mix two-component polyurethane materials and inject them into rapid tooling under normal temperature and low pressure.Products are formed through chemical and physical processes such as polymerization, cross-linking and curing of materials. The utility model has the advantages of high efficiency, short production cycle and low cost. It is applicable to small batch trial production in the process of product development, as well as the production of small batch panels with simple structure and large thick wall and uneven wall thickness products.

The first to use Reaction Injection Moulding in China is applicable to the automobile industry.In recent years,the domestic medical product manufacturing and instrument manufacturing use relatively more reaction injection moulding technology.Because the number of instruments and medical products produced is not large, the annual sales of a product is tens of hundreds of sets, If the injection cost of steel mold is relatively high, and there are many medical products, the wall thickness is relatively thick, or the wall thickness is uneven, which is not suitable for the injection molding process, the surface surface is complex, and it is not suitable for the blistering process, but the low pressure injection is different.Thick wall products can be poured, and the wall thickness can be uneven products.The normal pouring wall thickness (5-6mm) can be about 30mm at most, There are many materials used for molds (including aluminum mold, resin mold, plastic mold, gypsum mold, etc.).
